NORTH EAST BUSINESSES ARE KEY TARGET IN WELLBEING DRIVE

Date

21 June 2010

Description

More than 1,800 businesses and organisations in the North East are being targeted in a drive to improve the health and wellbeing of employees after research shows that it helps boost productivity and improves business performance. A new Health and Wellbeing Award just launched by Investors in People and backed by the Department of Health will support organisations wanting to drive forward their performance by supporting their key asset: their people. The 1,800 regional organisations have been contacted by Investors in People North East with information and a link to a free Internet tool (www.iipne.co.uk/tools) where, in just ten minutes, they can get a clear picture of how their business is currently performing on health and wellbeing. The first North East company to acquire the new award is Thermo Fisher Scientific, a Cramlington-based manufacturer of sterile liquids and containers for the bio-pharmaceutical industry. Robert Macleod, Managing Director of Investors in People North East, said: “We have already had an influx of enquiries to use this new framework. The interest in Health and Wellbeing isn’t a surprise with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) releasing research showing that absence is costing employers on average £692 per employee per year. This is substantial compared to the cost of the Investors in People Health and Wellbeing Award.” For details of the new Health and Wellbeing Award call Investors in People North East on 0191 5166 464
