Legal Clinic Opens in Newcastle

Date

23 November 2009

Description

Peolple working in a North East city centre are to be offered legal advice on their lunch break as part of a pioneering initiative launched by one of the region’s top law firms. BHP Law has announced plans for a legal clinic to be held every Tuesday at its Eldon Chambers offices on the Quayside in Newcastle. The innovative move means people can call into the firm between noon and 6pm without an appointment to discuss their problems with qualified legal staff. A member of the firm’s financial planning department will also be on hand to advise on financial issues. Legal professionals from BHP will be on hand to discuss a wealth of matters from family issues and personal injury claims to wills and financial advice. The clinic has been timed to allow people working in the city to drop in during lunch hours or just after they have left the office. BHP is renowned as one of the North East’s most respected law firms with a heritage of traditional legal practice dating back to 1835. It is now a multi-disciplinary company offering an array of services from offices in Durham Teesside, Darlington and Halifax as well as Newcastle, with more than 200 professional and support staff. Richard Deas, a consultant in the family team at BHP Law, said: “The clinic is a new development for us at BHP and will give people the chance to talk to our experienced legal professionals about important issues that they would otherwise not have had chance to address during their working day. We are confident that the scheme will be a success and it is our intention in due course to roll it out to our offices in Durham, Stockton, North Shields, Darlington and Halifax.”
